What is Zone AB and Zone ABC?
The entire Berlin local traffic is divided into only 3 zones A, B and C. A is the city centre within the S-Bahn ring. B is about the rest of the city of Berlin. Zone C are places in the vicinity of Berlin in Brandenburg. These include, interesting for tourists, Potsdam and Babelsberg. Also the airport Schönefeld is in area C, the airport Tegel is in zone B in Berlin. Therefore, as a tourist, you usually only need zone C if you also want to visit Potsdam or if you fly from airport Schönefeld within the time of the validity of the WelcomeCard. These are S-Bahn, subway, bus, tram and regional trains. If you have the Welcome Card with the zones ABC, the public ferries over the Wannsee are also free of charge (very popular with tourists). Attention: The Welcome Card for 2 and 3 days is valid by the hour. If you use the ticket for the first time on Tuesday at 2 pm, it is valid until Thursday at 2 pm (the 2-day version). The WelcomeCard tickets for 4.5 and 6 days are valid for 4 consecutive calendar days, for example.
